Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture That Brings Out the Best in People
by Donna Hicks
Leading with Dignity is a substantial book. In it, Donna Hicks lays out how she got into dignity work, which helped me begin thinking about how it applies to schools. While some specific references exist for implementing a dignity curriculum within an independent school, I was more interested in implementing her ideas with adults so that it can trickle down into the cultures of our classroom. To that end, I shared the history of Donna’s work with my staff. We continue to use her elements of dignity and dignity violations in discussions, which has helped the staff to better understand where their reactions might be coming from and how they can approach situations differently.
